Graphic Design Syllabus
Course Description
Graphic Design is an honors weighted course, which teaches students to meet the ever changing graphics and multimedia needs of businesses. Students learn to prepare projects in a variety of formats, develop proficiencies in designing, importing, and manipulating advanced text, graphics, audio, and video used in presentation management, multimedia production, publishing systems, and emerging technologies.

Course Fee
A $10 course fee required for supplies such as: flash drives, printer ink, SLR cameras, new Adobe textbooks, colored pencils & markers.
Supplies needed EVERY DAY
Make-up Work Procedures
Daily work will be posted on a calendar located in a prominent place in the classroom and on my website – www.jenigarcia.weebly.com. It is your responsibility to check the calendar and/or website regarding missed work. Electronic copies of handouts and assignments can be found on the Shared drive.
If present in class most students will be able to complete their work during the assigned class period, however when a student misses a class or falls behind they must come in to tutorials complete to missing assignments.
AbsencesYou have three calendar days after an excused absence to make up missed work for full credit. On the fourth day following an absence, students may turn in work for a maximum grade of 50. Students who turn in work after the fourth day will not receive credit. Should a student be absent for an extended period, it is their responsibility to discuss make up work with Mrs. Garcia.
Late WorkIf you were present in class and did not turn work in on the due date, you have three additional calendar days to make up their work for partial credit. Ten points will be deducted for each day late and work turned in after the third day late will not receive credit.
Grading System
Daily Work = 40%. Quizzes, Tests & Projects = 60%.
You are expected to complete all assigned work successfully and punctually.
Grade Check Procedures
You should check grades via the Cloud on a weekly basis. It is your responsibility to check your own grade for each assginment. You and/or your parents or guardians may arrange access to the Cloud via the main office. In the event you do not have access to the cloud, you are responsible for checking your grade with Mrs. Garcia on a weekly basis.
Organization
You may determine how to organize your class work in the way that best suits you. You should retain all notes and handouts in a folder on your H drive. If you wish to retain hard copies of assignments or handouts, you should make print outs at home, or in class, only with permission from the teacher.
Textbooks, hand outs and assignments
You will not be issued with a textbook, so preparation for tests and semester exams will need to come from your own collection of electronic notes and assignments saved on your H drive. If you need to use a text book outside of the class room, you should speak to Mrs. Garcia.
An Honest Grade for Honest Work
You are responsible for doing your own original work. Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated. Consequences will be in line with the Bowie Academic Integrity Policy.

If you choose to break a rule, the following are examples of consequences which may occur…
First Time: You will receive a verbal warning.
Second Time: You will lose classroom privileges.
Third Time: Your parent or guardian will be contacted.
Fourth Time: You will receive a detention.
Severe disruptions: You will be sent immediately to the office.

- Do not to bring any food or drinks into the classroom, except water which must be kept well away from your computer.
- Be in your assigned seats working on the warm-up when the tardy bell rings.
- Request permission from Mrs. Garcia, in an emergency, to use the restroom.
- Raise your hand and wait to be called upon to speak during direct instruction.
- If you are absent for any reason, it is your responsibility to make up missed assignments.
- All daily assignments will be turned in at the end of the period unless otherwise specified.
- All work should be submitted electronically unless otherwise specified.
- If you finish the day’s assignments early, you should work on extra credit assignments.
- You will use the computer for class activities only. No outside games, e-mail, unauthorized Internet use. NO EXCEPTIONS!
- You will not use or have in sight cell phones, headsets, MP3 players or other electronic devices of any kind. Such devices, if visible or audible will be confiscated and turned into the front office, per Bowie policy.
- Remain seated at your own desk at the end of the period until the class is dismissed.
- Keep your workstation clean by throwing away unnecessary papers and trash, pushing in your chair before leaving.

- No unauthorized login to the Internet, including games, email, social media or chat programs.
